I. Definition

Media code consists of many things, mostly related to the cinema aspect such as editing, acting, mise-en-scene, sounds, etc - all of them can be combined into one table with four columns:

As I have already mentioned symbolic codes, technical codes, and conventions before in my Genre Research and Idea Development - both can be found on my blog. The only aspect I haven’t researched much about is written codes, especially spoken language. Which I will improvise on today. This will be director commentary, with me, Doxcease, breaking down the opening scene of Name of Hearts from different technical and symbolic aspects, thus explaining how NOH uses and challenges conventions in the romance genre.

Romance movies, though constantly evolving, rely on a set of codes and conventions that create a familiar and comforting experience for viewers.
